Happenings

Some recent developments in the book world that are of interest to me and thus should be of interest to you if you know what’s good for you.

Word has it that the release date for Steven Erikson’s The Crippled God has been pushed back to February 21, 2011. Still, it will easily beat the release date for GRRM’s A Dance with Dragons, which Amazon pithily notes as “We don’t know when or if this item will be back in stock.” Yeah, I lol’d.

Speaking of GRRM, HBO has been posting some clips from the upcoming Game of Thrones series. Currently there is a trailer and a couple making-of clips. Honestly, it looks pretty good so far.

Sticking with the fantasy vein, Joe Abercrombie’s The Heroes has been completed and is now in the editing process. Hope it’s better than his last one.

Finally, William Gibson’s latest Zero History is now out and I’m looking forward to getting my grubby mitts on it in the near future.

Coldfire Surprise

Sounding a bit like a culinary dish with dubious ingredients but doubtlessly more tasty, C.S. Friedman has announced that she is working on a short story based on everyone’s favorite anti-hero, Gerald Tarrant, to be completed after her work on her latest trilogy is done. She’s even gone and published an excerpt of her work, currently titled Dominion. Cool beans.
