Relief

After a somewhat lengthy run of cruddy to so-so books, I stumbled upon something worthwhile.

The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by N.K. Jemisin.

I first thought this book would be a stand alone novel, but I guess that still isn’t allowed in the fantasy realm. Fortunately, I was rather impressed by this debut so I’m actually looking forward to the next two installments. A not-so-standard fantasy tale filled with developed and believable characters, Jemisin spins an imaginative story that was difficult to put down at times. Worth checking out.

4/5 gogs.

Good read! Picked it up a couple days ago, finished it that night. I liked the philosophical aspect of the necessity of change, and the idea that change was destined to happen (trying not to spoil anything for people who come across this).

    Good suggestion, thanks!

Sherwood Smith – Inda, check it out. I’m almost done with the first book. It’s well written, though brutally strange in its setting. Also, the character arcs are dynamic enough to make the reader want to shout out in indignation, fear and joy, all at the same time. Definitely worth a read if you get a chance.

[...] were still fairly complex and believable, the writing and plot just weren’t as strong as in The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms. Still, this wouldn’t be the worst way to spend a frigid winter weekend [...]
