Good and Gooderer

The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson.
The second fantasy book by Mr. Sanderson. Unlike his first book, Elantris, this is the first of what is looking to be a pretty good trilogy.
Kind of your typical fight-against-the-evil-overlord story with a twist; it seems the evil overlord is actually the hero who was supposed to save the world from darkness hundreds of years ago. D’oh. Using a magic systems based on metals and some real-world physics and with some likeable characters, the book quickly draws you in, only to slow down a bit halfway through. The end of the story is pretty abrupt and I wonder if the original version was edited down for publishing purposes. Regardless, this book shows some growth in his writing over Elantris and is worth checking out.
4/5 gogs.

The Line of Polity by Neal Asher.
I’ve been a bad man. It seems I haven’t mentioned Neal Asher before, despite having read two of his books in the past: Gridlinked and The Skinner (both excellent sci-fi reads, btw). Well, let me try and make things right by reviewing The Line of Polity, the second in his Polity universe series (the first being the aforementioned Gridlinked).
The book again revolves around ECS Agent Cormac and some old characters from the first novel as well as some new ones. Lots of action, complex characters and a truly despicable villain(s), this was a lengthy book that didn’t take long to read. Very much recommended if you liked his earlier works.
4.5/5 gogs.
