Acacia

Acacia cover
Acacia by David Anthony Durham

Short review today because, well, I can. Bwahahahaa…

A solid start for an epic fantasy series. Fast moving yet with a deep storyline, could use a little polish here and there, but it left me satisfied and wanting more. Reminds me of a George R. R. Martin book.

4/5 gogs.

Your step-dad is a dick.

Making the rounds this week is an AP article about a kid in California who got pulled over for speeding and now his step-dad is fighting the ticket on the grounds that the GPS data from the car doesn’t agree with the data gathered by the radar gun.

The article only briefly covers the reasoning behind the GPS unit being installed in the kid’s car: his parents don’t want him speeding. OK, perhaps a bit extreme, but for parents who don’t believe in silly things like trust relationships, a workable solution. However, take a listen to this interview with Mr. Dick Rude (no really, that’s his name), the step-father who had the GPS unit installed. “I know how long he’s been [at work] and when he leaves”, Mr. Rude smugly proclaims in the interview.

Mr. Rude, a former PR “officer” at the Sonoma County Sheriff, is making such a big stink about this in the media that his son’s teacher at school assigned a paper to all the students in his class regarding this subject. Apparently that went over with his son’s classmates like the proverbial turd in a punchbowl. I’m nominating this guy for Father of the Year.
