Wii.
Would it really be murder if the victims don’t have lives in the first place?
– Green Pea-ness author James documents the joy of standing in a 10-hour next-gen gaming console line.

This I Believe
I don’t justify our reasons for this war — that’s not a soldier’s luxury — and I don’t justify what the insurgents have done to the Iraqis. But the passion of all sides — Iraqi, American, ally and insurgent — shows that if man can redirect his energies to one of acceptance and not intolerance, we can bring the zealot, the politician, the soldier and the outsider to a place where man is just that: man. – Sgt. Ernesto Haibi
Listening to NPR on my way home from work yesterday, I caught this week’s “This I Believe” segment of All Things Considered. You should give it a listen.

Pumice Raft
Apparently, news of this has been making the rounds on the Intarweb and major news outlets for a short while now. Being the shut-in that I am, I didn’t learn about the pics until today. Witness the surreal sea of stones.

Ch-ch-changes
Well, the elections went pretty much as I had hoped. The Democrats took the majority in the House and we’re still waiting to hear the results of two extremely tight Senate races. That is all well and good and I’m glad to see scumballs like Rick Santorum lose their jobs (I’m hoping the same happens to George Allen) but I’m still worried for the future. I very much hope that this shift in power results in an equal shift in the way this country is run. We voted for change, now it is up to the elected to make sure that change happens.

Civics 101
I voted on my way in to work this morning using one of those electronic voting machines, the Diebold Accuvote-TSX (with a name like that, I feel like a terrorist sympathizer by complaining about it). The machine I was using picked the wrong selection twice; easy enough to fix since I was paying attention (it voted for one Democrat and one Republican so I guess I can’t accuse it of being biased). However, I can easily see how incorrect votes would be cast if someone was in a hurry / wasn’t paying attention and I do have to have blind faith that my votes were actually recorded correctly since there is no paper trail from this machine.
Now I get to sit back and wait for the results. I’m hoping that enough people feel the same as I do and vote for some big changes in our government. We shall see.
