Worms

From the OMG That’s Fucking Disgusting Department, PZ Myers points to an article in the New England Journal of Medicine regarding an Enterobius vermicularis infestation in some poor chap’s guts. The best part is that they’ve posted a video of the colonoscopy. Ew, ew, ew.

Feeling Lucky?

It must be Science Friday here or something. There’s an interesting article in the latest edition of Scientific American that looks at the roles that one’s mental state plays in “luck”. Having read it, a lot of what is presented makes quite a bit of sense to me. Check it out.

Friday

Hey, it’s Friday and I don’t want to be at work. Do you? Why not waste the day away by staring, in awe, at the Blue Ball Machine?

Have a great weekend.

Baby Six String

I don’t know what I want to write, except that I am happy. I am who I am and I wouldn’t change it. I’ve made many mistakes and lost some relationships along the way, but those experiences and regrets are valuable lessons for me and have helped shape me into what I am now – a pretty good person, in my mind. Oh, I still make occasional mistakes and inadvertantly cause hurt to those I care about, but I can finally apologize from my heart and move on. I think that people can pick up on sincerity very well and that allows them to forgive more easily which, in turn, makes me more confident and sincere. There is an interesting balance to life here; just as how my fears can fuel my emotional isolation so, too, does my confidence fuel my emotional openness. It’s been a strengthening relevation.

Soothing the Savage Beast

South by Southwest starts up this weekend and, once again, they’ve made tracks from the musicians playing there available via a couple of huge torrent files and, once again, I’m kicking myself for not getting my shit together and taking a trip down there.

Money

Have a gander at this CNN transcript from last week and then fight back your rage when you get to the part where Christine Romans reports (about 3/8 of the way down).

The oil-rich United Arab Emirates is a major investor in The Carlyle Group, the private equity investment firm where President Bush’s father once served as senior adviser and is a who’s who of former high-level government officials. Just last year, Dubai International Capital, a government-backed buyout firm, invested in an $8 billion Carlyle fund.

Another family connection, the president’s brother, Neil Bush, has reportedly received funding for his educational software company from the UAE investors. A call to his company was not returned.

Then there is the cabinet connection. Treasury Secretary John Snow was chairman of railroad company CSX. After he left the company for the White House, CSX sold its international port operations to Dubai Ports World for more than a billion dollars.

Another administration connection, President Bush chose a Dubai Ports World executive to head the U.S. Maritime Administration. David Sanborn, the former director of Dubai Ports’ European and Latin American operations, he was tapped just last month to lead the agency that oversees U.S. port operations.

Yep, more confirmation of what we already knew. Fucking the American public over for money? No problem for the Bush Administration.
