Continued Corruption

The Bush Administration has admitted to paying off another journalist to write in support of their policies (this makes 3 now that they’ve admitted to – who knows how many others remain undiscovered). Oh, but
they’ve promised to never do it again. Right. The Bush Administration has demonstrated time and time again that they will stop at nothing to further their ambitions and corrupt policies. How much longer are we going to tolerate such actions?

Dorsal

Woohah. I’m back, now on a (fingers crossed) much better host. And I’d like to tip my hat to the creator of the WordPress One Click Backup. Devastatingly easy to use and it works like a charm.

$@!^%

My apologies for the outage this weekend; the drunken monkies at the web service seem to have struck again. I’m currently discussing the possibility of a new home with my most gracious host Benny so the URL may change in the near future. I’ll keep you updated.

CPT

Anders, over at music (for robots) has offered up a most delicious cover of Straight Outta’ Compton performed by Nina Gordon (ex-Veruca Salt). I think this gives The Gourds’ rendition of Gin and Juice a run for its money as best cover song EVAR. Love it.

Do not eat iPod shuffle.

Do not eat iPod shuffle.

So says a disclaimer at the bottom of the page for Apple’s new iPod shuffle. It was announced today along with the Mac mini – both of which are so cute, I want to eat them – so apparently the warning is not without provocation. And they’re reasonably priced and spec’d – what on earth is happening at Apple? Why the hell am I using so many dashes in this post? Please make it stop.

MS DRM == pwned

As if you needed yet another reason to avoid Digital Rights Management-laden media, Microsoft is providing you with one. Seems that when Windows Media Player forces you to download a license to listen/watch a DRM-protected media file, you may be unknowingly allowing the installation of any number of viruses, trojans and other malware. Hmm. Maybe mp3 and divx/xvid aren’t so bad after all? [via Slashdot]

404

So I was paying some bills today and I noticed that the check I was filling out was number 404. Does the fact that I seriously considered voiding it out so that it would be “Not Found” make me a nerd?

The one with the pony?

Hoo, boy. Here’s a (longish ~17 min.) streaming short film titled Farm Sluts. You might want to turn your speakers down if you’re watching this at work. Of course, your laughter will probably drown everything out anyway…

Spam

So, I’ve now had my first visit from a spammer in the comments. Fortunately, technology exists to easily and quickly block and delete such trash. Neener, neener. And to my friendly spammer: I hope scabies mites nest in your genital region. Have a happy day!

Well Wishes

Dan Gillmor, the most excellent and oft-cited at GogBlog journalist at the San Jose Mercury-Times, has left his position in order to work on a project that he hopes will “inspire, enable and create what many have been calling a new kind of journalism”. Although I will miss his insightful reporting, I wish him the best with his future endeavors.

Semi-related to this, William Gibson posted a very apropos quote from William James:

I am done with great things and big plans, great institutions and big success. I am for those tiny, invisible loving human forces that work from individual to individual, creeping through the crannies of the world like so many rootlets, or like the capillary oozing of water, which, if given time, will rend the hardest monuments of pride.

Keep this in mind as the powers-that-be strive to continue driving this country into the ground.
