Your Future
Mark Cuban (yes, that Mark Cuban) has some interesting things to say regarding the proposed privatization of a portion of our Social Security funds.
Following on his heels is an article over at Slate by Henry Blodget (yes, that Henry Blodget) that points out how the majority of us suck at investing and lists some of the biggest pitfalls that we stumble into.
Both are worthy reads and may directly affect your lives in the near future, depending on how things progress in Washington. Check ‘em out.

IMHO anyone under 50 who expects Social Security in any form to still be around when they retire are living in pipe dreams. With the coming retirement crunch and the huge deficit spending the current administration has put us in… Well, I’m just not envisioning it being pretty.

While I agree with what you’re saying (and I’m very glad I work somewhere that pays into a retirement program that has nothing to do w/ Social Security or the fed. govt.), so many people are going to get screwed by this when the shit hits the fan. Even if they started investing on their own now, they’ve already wasted 10, 20, 30 years of compounding interest by paying into SS (back when it was still viable). I really wonder what is going to happen to this country in the coming years/decades.

Oh, I agree with that completely and I believe we owe it to those people to make sure that SS is still there when they need it. I think you’d damn near see a revolt if you told people they have to pay when they won’t see any benefit, though.

Actually, a good revolt is what this country needs right about now.

You think that with the way the country’s leaning right now a revolt would turn out well?
